If you follow us on our social media pages, you know that Earth Fest is one of the things that got us extremely excited last week. We were pretty much blown away by the fact that it is so much more than bringing people together in dance and song.
This past Saturday (July 11, 2015) myself, George Chigaru, for and on behalf of VodkaCoconuts, had the pleasure of being a part of this music, heart and soil experience. As a first time attendee, i have to say i do not regret as this experience is everything all at once. The beauty of the presentation. The sense of connection in reference to the cross-cultural experience. The constant conversations and discovering new opportunities. The learning.
Earth Fest without a doubt went beyond my expectations. It is more than a music festival: it is an amazing platform of talent display that can be appreciated by all ages.
Although the program ran behind schedule, the musical entertainment was out of this world:
The ChikenBus Band from Zimbabwe gave a very groovy performance that got the entire crowd, young and old, showing off on the floor.
YesRasta from Zambia, served fine artistry during their set. It is quite impressive the way they communicated with the crowd.
Maybe i am a little biased but my favourite act of the night who coincidentally happen to be my current obsession, Mokoomba from Zimbabwe were nothing short of amazing. Their combination of cultural and contemporary elements is impressive and totally works! Towards the end of their set, they displayed impeccable dance moves.
Although it took slightly more than 15 minutes to set up his set, Jeremy Loops from South Africa without a doubt delivered and did justice to his set. He managed to keep the crowd entralled!
Unfortunately i left in the middle of Jeremy Loops’ set because my old bones could no longer withstand the cold and fatigue.
However i would like to send a shout out to the wonderful caterers, all the individuals that signed our flag and promised that they will visit Zimbabwe soon, my two special friends, Rumbie and Evie, and to Marissa of GreenPop South Africa, thank you so very much.
With all that said, Earth Fest has indeed found a special place in my heart and i look forward to another experience of music, heart and soil.
I regret nothing, not even the blisters on my toes.
