#VODKACOCONUTSATTENDS: EARTH FEST 2015!!

If you follow us on our social media pages, you know that Earth Fest is one of the things that got us extremely excited last week. We were pretty much blown away by the fact that it is so much more than bringing people together in dance and song.

This past Saturday (July 11, 2015) myself, George Chigaru, for and on behalf of VodkaCoconuts, had the pleasure of being a part of this music, heart and soil experience. As a first time attendee, i have to say i do not regret as this experience is everything all at once. The beauty of the presentation. The sense of connection in reference to the cross-cultural experience. The constant conversations and discovering new opportunities. The learning.

Earth Fest without a doubt went beyond my expectations. It is more than a music festival: it is an amazing platform of talent display that can be appreciated by all ages.

Although the program ran behind schedule, the musical entertainment was out of this world:

The ChikenBus Band from Zimbabwe gave a very groovy performance that got the entire crowd, young and old, showing off on the floor.

YesRasta from Zambia, served fine artistry during their set. It is quite impressive the way they communicated with the crowd.

Maybe i am a little biased but my favourite act of the night who coincidentally happen to be my current obsession, Mokoomba from Zimbabwe were nothing short of amazing. Their combination of cultural and contemporary elements is impressive and totally works! Towards the end of their set, they displayed impeccable dance moves.

Although it took slightly more than 15 minutes to set up his set, Jeremy Loops from South Africa without a doubt delivered and did justice to his set. He managed to keep the crowd entralled!

Unfortunately i left in the middle of Jeremy Loops’ set because my old bones could no longer withstand the cold and fatigue.

However i would like to send a shout out to the wonderful caterers, all the individuals that signed our flag and promised that they will visit Zimbabwe soon, my two special friends, Rumbie and Evie, and to Marissa of GreenPop South Africa, thank you so very much.

With all that said, Earth Fest has indeed found a special place in my heart and i look forward to another experience of music, heart and soil.

I regret nothing, not even the blisters on my toes.

Cricket Fever!! #ZimTurnUp

image

“The Indians are in town!!!”

That is all you hear from most avid cricket enthusiasts around the country. Rewind back 10 months ago. That was the last time we were graced with International cricket, in the form of South African and Australian touring squads. All that changes in two days time when our Chevrons and the touring Indians square up in the first of three ODIs at Harare Sports Club. All matches are set to be played at the plush HSC ground, with the two Twenty20 matches that conclude the itinerary, also set for the same venue.
Cricket fans in Bulawayo should not feel hard done, as International cricket is almost certain to grace their beloved Queens Sports Club sooner rather than later, as it’s open season for touring squads, with formidable teams like the West Indies, Pakistan and New Zealand set to tour the country in what promises to be a busy season for local fans.
India’s tour provides the Chevrons with a once in a life time chance of victory against India, as most of the renowned big shots aren’t part of the touring party. Besides that, the Indians are still licking their wounds after an ODI series loss against a rapidly improving Bangladesh side. With a much less experienced touring party, Zimbabwe should take this as an opportunity to claim a victory or two.
Here’s hoping the Chevrons can come to the party and reward the ever faithuful fans. Let’s spur the boys on to victory. #ZimTurnUp

GreenPop x Earth Fest 2015!!

earth fest

This here boys and girls has to be one of the things we are excited about this week. A while back, before this platform came to life, a friend of VodkaCoconuts told us about The Earth Fest and suggested that we attend. Despite the fact that then we did not fully understand what the festival is about, FOMO got us excited and we immediately started making our travel plans but it was only in the just passed week that we got all The Earth Fest gist and we have to say we are happy that our initial excitement was well worth the…well EXCITEMENT.

Now one of the things we are passionate about is the environment and its preservation and it was interesting to learn that The Earth is an integral part of Greenpop Zambia Festival of Action which is an annual reforestation project that usually runs during June and July in Livingstone, Zambia. Since 2012, Greenpop has been on an ongoing tree planting and co-education project around Livingstone. This Action project brings people together from all around the world to plant thousands of trees, learn, connect, give back, grow and get active.

The Earth Fest’s mission is to prove that as people we can enjoy ourselves and have a great time while still ensuring the sustainability of the ourselves and our planet. Please join us at Earth Fest on July 11, 2015 in Livingstone, Zambia at Marimba Cultural Village from 13:00hrs until late and enter a world of heart, soil and music from the talented Jeremy Loops (South Africa), Chicken Bus Band (Zimbabwe), YesRasta (Zambia), Mokoomba (Zimbabwe) and many more other talented acts.

See you there:-)
